#Chinese Ambassador Bids Farewell, Inspired by Chief Justice’s Reforms

#Chief Justice’s Chambers, Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, 21st November 2025: The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, has expressed deep admiration for the significant reforms undertaken within the Judiciary in less than a year.

In his farewell remarks marking the end of his diplomatic assignment in the country, Ambassador Wang commended the “impressive and transformative reforms” championed by His Lordship, the Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda.

Ambassador Wang also noted that China and Sierra Leone’s longstanding relationship—rooted in mutual support since diplomatic ties were established in 1971 has grown into a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. He emphasized that the relationship has been strengthened through joint responses to shared challenges such as the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics. According to Ambassador Qing, the relationship and cooperation cut across infrastructure, trade, health, social justice, and other critical sectors.

He expressed optimism that his successor will continue to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

In his response, Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda noted China’s enduring contributions to Sierra Leone’s development, citing landmark projects such as the National Stadium and the Youyi Building.

“Thank you for your support to my administration, especially in expanding access to justice,” he said, referencing the ongoing capacity-building program for Judiciary support staff currently in China.

Describing Ambassador Wang as “a friend and a strong pillar” of the Judiciary, the Chief Justice added, “Your support will never go unnoticed. If it were up to us, your stay would continue, but duty calls elsewhere. Thank you and I wish you all the best."

Also in attendance were Hon. Justice Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi (JSC), Honourable Justice Manuela A. J. Harding (J), and Honourable Justice Khalila Diana Kamara (J).
