FREETOWN SLUMS: HOW MUST THIS PROBLEM BE SOLVED?


Home Leone a private Charity, has made this video to attract attention and help. It claims that 'LAND' has been made available to help build  new homes. Fine! 


BUT WHAT ABOUT CLEARING THESE SLUMS?? 

 The Slums must be cleared and the land spaces used to build replacement dwellings otherwise,  these sharks will continue to be there as other slum dwellers will simply take the places of the few who will benefit from the new homes built by private groups like Home Leone. A SLUM REGENERATION PROGRAMME IS NEEDED!



This area, looks more like  KROO BAY and this picture or copy or versions of this photos/ films have been seen time and time again and again. Even at the report of the Falklands War, when the British ships stopped over at Deep Water Queue, the reporter Brian Barron (deceased) chose to report the beauty of Freetown by filming and posting KROO BAY. Governments after Governments have glanced over these slums and their population is now growing.

ITS TIME TO TAKE DRASTIC MEASURES TO CHANGE THIS KROO BAY/SUSAN'S BAY ENVIRONMENT- whether it be private charities, self help projects or local or central government. It is time this part of Freetown be cleared and proper dwelling environment established. 

It is not enough to continue to publish these awful sad situational films. I cannot give a count of how many times I have seen different versions of this area of Freetown and it is always the same complaints by the inhabitants, and the same explanations, the same blame on the government of the day, the same, the same, the same all the time. It is time some positive, drastic, direct action be taken. The MP (member of Parliament) for the area, the Councillors of this area and headmen/ women, the so called CIVIL SOCIETY 'NOISEMAKERS'- it is time for them to 'put their mouths where their NOISES are' within a short specific time.

THIS IS UNFAIR    AND UNREASONABLE!  CATEGORY 5, AN INCREASE   FROM NLe183 to NLe700, an increase of 382.5%.  CATEGORY 6, AN INCREASE FROM NLe100 TO NEW 250    i.e. 150%. These are the categories that will mostly    impact cost of living and increase economic suffering on the people.    The Ministers of Transport, Works, Finance and Trade must conjointly review these increases as these are UNFAIR AND UNREASONABLE AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL TAXES.
