INCREASE IN TOLLGATE TAXES - A RECIPE FOR ADDITIONAL HIGHER INFLATION ON COMMODITY/ FOOFCOST/ FUEL AND OTHER TRANSPORT PRICES. THIS IS UNFAIR AND UNREASONABLE! CATEGORY 5, AN INCREASE FROM NLe183 to NLe700, an increase of 382.5%. CATEGORY 6, AN INCREASE FROM NLe100 TO NEW 250 i.e. 150%. These are the categories that will mostly impact cost of living and increase economic suffering on the people. The Ministers of Transport, Works, Finance and Trade must conjointly review these increases as these are UNFAIR AND UNREASONABLE AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL TAXES. TAXATION POLICY IS NOT TO PENALISE OR IMPOVERISH THE PEOPLE BUT TO PROVIDE REVENUE, REASONABLE ENOUGH TO MITIGATE GOVERNMENT SPENDINGS IN VARIOUS PUBLIC GOODS! EXECUTIVE CABINET IS NOT THE SUBSTITUTE FOR PARLIAMENT; ONLY PARLIAMENT HAS THE POWER TO IMPOSE TAXES. This is an unconstitutional action/policy change by Cabinet!

The Minister of Works Denis Sandy is talking absolute RUBBISH! WHAT HAS THE INCREASE IN TOLL GATE TARRIFF/TAX GOT TO DO WITH CORONA VIRUS AND RUSSIA/UKRAINE WAR? This is the kind of stupidity espoused by educated fools like you Dr Denis Sandy. He have been sacked once from this SLPP PAOPA government. He should not have been re-engaged and will soon be sacked again for his stupidity.

When these roads were being built under the APC/EBK REGIME, this SLPP (then in opposition), tried to devalue the efforts made and repeatedly called them COSMETIC! Now, they are trying to punish the people by unfairly increasing the Tollgate taxes, and talking foolishly of extrapolation of revenue to build other roads beyond Mile Siaka. He cannot justify these arbitrary increases; they are not based on any reasonable data. See how the Minister is struggling to answer the presenter’s questions about how much has been collected.

They do not even have a clue of what has been collected, yet he talks of extrapolation of future collections. What data are they going to use when figures year on year or quarter on quarter are unavailable and unknown. This indicates and gives example of all the FAKE STATISTICS they throw out ever so often. What figures;? How much have been collected?

Should road users funding the repayment of the current road built by the Chinese Company be now used to construct upland/upline roads? What provisions from the Ministry of Works budget are allocated to new roads construction? This does not give any confidence in Road construction policy; should we continue with joggling allocation strategies; cut here, put there manipulations?

Well, that is what this fool of a Minister of Works is saying. The Toll payment was initiated to recover the cost of the construction hitherto, but now he is talking about, using future Tollgate collection taxes to build new similar roads upline/beyond Mile Siaka! Sounds like the policy used in 1898 by the then British Governor to impose the HUT TAX to support the construction/extension of the then new Railway upcountry, to which the Chiefs led by Bai Bureh, objected and led to the HUT TAX WAR.
